Lead a team of custodial staff to keep young people safe each night.
Guide staff and manage risks in a secure care setting.
Help young people stay safe and build better futures.
Provide effective ongoing supervision and leadership to the staffing group.

Children and young people involved in Youth Justice are either supervised in the community, by community youth justice workers located at Justice Service Centres across seven regions in Victoria or within custodial precincts. Custodial precincts focus on providing a genuine therapeutic environment, driven by relationships based on an integrated model of care and evidence-based approach to programs and services.

The three Youth Justice custodial precincts in Victoria are managed by the Department of Justice and Community Safety:

Parkville Youth Justice Precinct is in the inner northern Melbourne suburb of Parkville, approximately five kilometres from the central business district.
Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precinct located to the west of Werribee.
Malmsbury Youth Justice Precinct located approximately 100 kilometres north of Melbourne.

The opportunity

Ongoing, full time position based at the Parkville Youth Justice Precinct.
YJW2 role: $81,496 - $93,719 per year, plus superannuation.
Night shift position working a rostered 7 day fortnight, including weekends and public holidays.
Provide leadership to a custodial unit-based team during night shift.
Work closely with the manager to ensure dynamic risk assessment informs the functioning of the unit.
Ensure appropriate standards of care, supervision and safety are provided to young people.

To be successful in this role you will have:

Knowledge of adolescent development and effective interventions in responding to the developmental needs of young people.
Understanding of the Custodial Operating Philosophy and relevant legislation and policies that drive practice in Youth Justice.
Resilience and self-awareness in stressful situations, with clear communication skills and ability to solve problems.

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check (WWCC) to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.

A current statement of attainment for the first aid unit HTLAID011 Provide First Aid including CPR, to be obtained prior to commencement.

A current full driver's license is required as travel to other offices within the Department may be required.
