Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has become available to step into a long-held role at Plentiful General Store and Cafe. Our amazing Chef is making some family changes as they welcome their first child, creating an opportunity for you to bring a fresh new perspective on Melbourne's suburban cafe culture.

About the role:

Head Chef status with full responsibility and decision making of the kitchen
Explore new menu items and use your creativity to maximum potential
Ability to influence business decisions and take ownership and reward of change
Build relationships with customers who truly appreciate your work and creativity
Small team supported by an owner that has a strong focus on analytics and understands the benefits of costing (true Chef role)
Ability to rearrange the kitchen the way you want and see it flourish based on the hard work you put in
And of course a single set shifts. (out by 2.30pm every day)

Reap the rewards:

We close over Xmas from late Dec to late Jan
We close for a week over Easter
We don't trade Public Holidays
Chef is out around 2.15pm Wed-Fri and before 3pm Sat and Sun.
We are closed Monday's and Tuesday's
Rate $35-37 per hour (negotiable based on experience)
Full handover provided
Same team for 5 years with year-on-year growth

Things to consider:

This is one person role, where you make the calls, influence the decisions, set the pace and be your own boss.
The weekdays are quieter where you will prep and work on new ideas, streamline processes and maintain existing high standards of hygiene and clenliness.
The weekends are busy however good planning allows for fast service with some help from casual staff.
You will help open and close the cafe. General tasks include setting up tables and chairs, erecting umbrellas and helping close with a quick sweep and mop. It's how we have always done it here.

About you:

You have previous experience as a cafe Chef or Sous Chef with strong breakfast and brunch knowledge.
Ability to work in a small team that can be fast paced at peak times.
Reliable, organised and punctual are non negotiable. If the Chef does not turn up, the cafe does not open
Impeccable food safety knowledge and kitchen hygiene standards
Positive attitude and respectful of all team-members.
Must have fulltime working rights in Australia
Must have minimum 3 years experience in an Australian cafe

Pay: $35.00 – $37.00 per hour
