About the role
This pivotal role is responsible for driving the growth and commercial success of the paranaple convention centre.
You will actively generate new business opportunities, build strong industry relationships, and lead client-facing activities including proposals, site visits and bid submissions. Working with a high level of autonomy, you will manage the sales pipeline, support strategic planning, and deliver measurable results aligned with Council’s economic development objectives.
Key responsibilities

Grow conference and event bookings, increasing utilisation, revenue and commercial outcomes

Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities and pursue leads

Build and maintain strong relationships with event organisers, corporate, government, industry and community partners

Manage and grow the Convention Centre’s sales pipeline, supporting enquiry generation, conversion and confirmed bookings

Lead site visits, bid submissions and familiarisation programs

Coordinate marketing and engagement activities to support business growth

Represent the Convention Centre at industry events, networking opportunities and sales meetings

Analyse market trends, performance data and customer insights to inform strategy and improve outcomes

Provide commercial advice on pricing, yield optimisation and growth opportunities

Support the successful delivery of conferences and events in collaboration with operational teams
-
Act as an ambassador for the Convention Centre and Devonport
This role works closely with venue colleagues and operates with a high level of professional independence within Council frameworks.
What you’ll bring
Essential
-
Experience in business development, sales or account management (preferably in events, tourism, hospitality, or a related sector)

Proven ability to generate revenue growth and increase utilisation through new and existing business

Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality proposals and presentations
-
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships

Commercial acumen and analytical capability, including experience with forecasting, budgets or performance data
-
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and operate within policy frameworks

National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People Registration
Desirable
-
Relevant tertiary qualification (Business, Marketing, Event Management, Tourism or similar)

Experience in local government or public sector environments

Knowledge of the conference, events or cultural venue sector

Experience working with marketing teams or campaigns

Current driver’s licence
