Horse Trainer – Full-time
Calogo Bloodstock S.A. trading as Coolmore Australia (Stud), located in the Hunter Valley of NSW, is seeking applications for the following full-time positions:
Horse Trainer/Area Manager – Duties will include:
- Manage equine biosecurity and infection control
- Manage people performance
- Ensure a safe workplace
- Plan and implement an enterprise horse training and breeding strategy
- Manage reproductive outcomes of stallions and mares
Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:
- Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
- Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals
- Training young stock for sale including yearlings and attending sales when required
- Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
- Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required
Essential Criteria
- A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
- A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
- Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding
- Proven ability to train and educate young horses
- Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
- Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
- Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
- For the management positions the suitable applicant will require extensive evidence of managing a team and breeding operation
The salary for all positions will be above award and based on your skills and experience in the range of $75,000 to $80,000, including guaranteed accommodation.
