As part of the wider Scone Equine Group, the hospital maintains strong partnerships with universities nationwide, playing a vital role in clinical research and in training the next generation.
Position
Scone Equine Group is seeking suitable applicants for Associate Equine Veterinarian positions in a seasonal capacity from approximately August through to January, with discussion around an ongoing permanent position to be encouraged. It would suit applicants with at least 2 years graduated experience in mixed or equine practice, but new or recent graduates are encouraged to apply. We have the capacity to accommodate vets with differing levels of experience with a young graduate support and mentoring program, due to the size of our veterinary group.
The successful applicants will join the Ambulatory/Reproduction team with diverse responsibilities able to be tailored depending on the applicant’s strengths and experience. The role involves working within a team of vets servicing the Scone region of the Upper Hunter Valley, with also opportunities in the neighbouring Denman or Murrurundi areas. We expect the afterhours roster to be 1 in 3 or better with adequate back up and second opinion from experienced and specialist veterinarians. We encourage seasonal veterinarians to consider more than 1 season of employment with us to give our clients continuity of care while ensuring the successful applicant can see a clear path for skills and career development over time.
Location
The area of Scone, Denman and Murrurundi is in the heart of the thoroughbred breeding industry in Australia with the second largest population of breeding horses in the world. It is also home to a large performance horse population. The Upper Hunter area is in close proximity to the larger regional centres of Tamworth and Newcastle. The area is close to the vineyard region of Pokolbin and the Newcastle beaches are one and a half hours away, or you could be in Sydney with three and a half hours’ drive. Scone Equine Hospital is the largest equine veterinary practice in the southern hemisphere, employing over 30 equine veterinarians in the peak breeding season time of year.
Selection Criteria
