Primary objective
As a member of the Secondary Years branch you will lead, coordinate, and implement systemic policy and strategy to improve
student outcomes. This position uses knowledge, skills and understanding of leading curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment
to provide advice, professional learning, capability building, and development of resources.
Context statement
Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) provides evidence-based differentiated services and support to schools to maximise
outcomes for Territory children and young people. Our services encompass quality teaching and learning, national and systemic
assessment, transition to boarding school support and policy coordination. TLS also plays a strategic role in implementing
government priorities, offering expert advice to the Minister for Education and Training and the department’s senior executives.
We enhance our work by actively engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to ensure best outcomes for all our clients.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support to schools in teaching, learning and assessment to improve learning outcomes and post-school pathways for
secondary students in Northern Territory (NT) schools.
2. Build capacity of school staff through coaching and mentoring to deliver differentiated curriculum that is flexible and responsive
to school contexts. Focusing on Australian Curriculum (AC) and the South Australia Certificate of Education (SACE)/ Northern
Territory Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET).
3. Use data literacy practices to inform and implement professional learning to achieve organisational outcomes.
4. Develop and maintain comprehensive and effective professional networks and collaborative partnerships to achieve outcomes.
5. As a member of TLS provide accurate and authoritative information to senior executives and contribute to service delivery
through an integrated team approach, optimising organisational performance for Years 7-12 in line with departmental policies.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A sound knowledge and understanding of national policy and practice issues associated with the AC, the NTCET and the SACE
or other senior secondary curriculum, with a focus on teaching senior secondary subjects to needs of students in their context
and an understanding of issues and application at the local level.
2. Recent and relevant leadership experience leading high-quality curriculum delivery in senior secondary subjects, including
adopting programs to meet diverse student needs.
3. Demonstrate the ability to coach, mentor and lead professional development to implement evidence-based, differentiated
teaching and assessment practices that drive continuous improvement in a variety of contexts in the areas including pedagogy,
curriculum delivery, and quality assessment processes.
4. Demonstrate high level interpersonal, communication and cross-cultural skills with the ability to build and sustain effective
networks across corporate teams, schools, and stakeholders to maximise organisational performance.
5. Demonstrate commitment to own professional growth and development.

The selected applicant must hold full Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory (TRB), current NT
Working with Children Notice (Ochre Card) and driver’s licence or the ability to obtain prior to commencement. Office-based
conditions apply to this position. This position is required to travel to all areas of NT including travel in light planes and 4WDs.
