Primary objective
Provide epidemiological support for the Centre for Disease Control.
Context statement
Provides epidemiological support to the communicable disease surveillance work undertaken in the public health unit
including surveillance, data analysis, reporting and outbreak public health response.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with public health response activities for Public Health
2. Liaise with medical and public health professionals, pathology providers, hospitals, government and non-government
agencies and the public on issues related to the surveillance and management of Public Health
3. Surveillance, data management, analysis, interpretation and reporting of communicable disease data
4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces
5. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualification in public health, epidemiology or other relevant discipline
2. Demonstrated ability and experience in disease epidemiology, surveillance, investigation and control, including the
analysis of epidemiological data and the preparation of detailed reports.
3. Demonstrated use of effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
environment as well as being able to work independently to meet outcomes in a timely manner.
4. A sound understanding of information technology and knowledge and experience with epidemiological computer
databases and statistical packages.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in public health, epidemiology or other relevant discipline
2. Demonstrated experience undertaking data analysis using Stata
3. An understanding of health issues and health service delivery in the NT and Aboriginal communities
4. Demonstrated ability and experience in communicable disease epidemiology and/or public health response
