Primary objective
As a member of Top End Regional Services you will provide initiative, leadership and guidance in the formulation and
implementation of school and departmental policies and procedures, educational programs to achieve optimal educational
outcomes, with a focus on students with additional needs.
Context statement
Top End Regional Services provides a range of services to strategically support remote small schools to maximise outcomes
for students in a culturally responsive way. This includes services and support for quality teaching and learning, secondary
provision, early childhood quality and integration, and policy coordination.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Work with Principals and school-based educators, to build the capacity to deliver inclusive learning environments and
improve education outcomes for young children and students with additional needs arising from health and/or
developmental delays that impact their ability to learn, e.g. autism spectrum disorder, impaired vision, hearing loss,
challenging behaviours etc.
2. Provide evidence-based advice, differentiated support strategies, intervention programs and associated resources to
assist educators to plan and design inclusive adjustment programs for children, including partnering with non-government
entities and across government agencies to ensure wrap around support services for children and their families.
3. Deliver and/or facilitate professional learning to enhance the competency of staff in cross-cultural and multi-lingual
contexts, including coaching, mentoring and online training
4. Communicate with staff, students, parents/carers and other stakeholders about student wellbeing and academic progress
and achievement, particularly for students with additional needs.
5. Participate in individual case conferences, ensure adequate records are maintained while protocols and processes are
implemented.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive and contemporary knowledge of relevant special education, inclusion and intervention programs, eg autism,
early childhood interventions, hearing impairment, challenging behaviours, etc.
2. Proven ability to build the capacity of self, others and high performing teams through high level coaching and/or
mentoring within a remote school context with a focus on student adjustments.
3. Exceptional organisational skills, able to prioritise, plan and identify opportunities for continuous improvements.
4. High level interpersonal skills, including proven ability to collaborate and communicate with influence, build and maintain
effective networks with a range of stakeholders.
5. Demonstrated ability to build a shared culture of high expectations, while developing and maintaining effective
interpersonal and cross-cultural relationships within and beyond all remote small schools
Desirable
1. Understanding and experience in the effective delivery of evidence-based trauma informed practices.
Further information
Registration or capacity to be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and holder of a
Working with Children Clearance Notice. The successful applicant will need to provide these requirements prior to
commencement. Office-based conditions apply to this position. Travel is required on small aircrafts and 4WD travel.
