Primary objective
Provide policy and strategic advice in relation to Aboriginal employment and workforce development, and design, develop
and implement whole of sector programs, projects and initiatives to achieve the strategic goals of the Northern Territory
Public Sector (NTPS) Workforce Strategy.
Context statement
The position will actively contribute to outcomes that grow and develop our strong, highly skilled and capable Aboriginal
workforce. This role requires a proactive, knowledgeable, and culturally competent individual committed to making a
significant positive impact to Aboriginal employment in the NTPS.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide policy and strategic advice on Aboriginal workforce planning and development issues.
2. Develop, implement and evaluate sector wide strategic workforce planning and leadership development programs,
projects and initiatives that are tailored to develop the capability of Aboriginal employees.
3. Influence and support managers and leaders to adopt contemporary Aboriginal workforce planning and management
practices that support them to meet workforce targets.
4. Analyse and workforce data to inform proactive and innovative approaches to achieve Aboriginal workforce targets.
5. Manage and facilitate the Aboriginal Employment and Career Development programs and initiatives
6. Represent the agency in various forums such as interdepartmental forums, working parties, and cross government
initiatives in relation to Aboriginal workforce development and reform.
7. Champion modern workforce solutions that promote a respectful and inclusive workplace.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience developing effective policy, programs and frameworks, and providing strategic advice on issues related to
Aboriginal employment and workforce development.
2. Experience monitoring and evaluating the success of strategies and frameworks, providing reports and recommendations
for improved outcomes.
3. Experience managing projects, coordinating programs and events with successful outcomes.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively engaging and building trust with a diverse range
of stakeholders and collaborating across government to align programs that positively influence Aboriginal employment.
5. Demonstrated experience working collaboratively and productively in a small team environment and role modelling high
levels of professionalism and co-operation that supports the successful outcomes of organisational objectives.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in Public Administration, Aboriginal Studies, Human Resources or related fields.
