Primary objective
Intensive care –Senior Registrar positions to fulfil clinical duties in critical care at the Royal Darwin Hospital.
Context statement
RDH ICU offers 6 to 12 months accredited training positions for CICM trainees, as well as ACEM, ACCRM and ANZCA
trainees. RDH ICU, with an annual admission rate of more than 1400 patients (adult and paediatric), is accredited for 12
months of CICM training and meets rural, paediatrics, trauma and neurosurgery requirements. The position also fulfills the
critical care requirements for ANZCA and ACEM training programs. The successful applicant will get exposure to tropical
medicine as well as Aboriginal Health. Besides involvement in the management of critically unwell patients in ICU, the
successful applicant will have the opportunity to improve clinical leadership and team member skills by working in a
multidisciplinary team in ICU as well as part of the Rapid Response and Trauma teams. The RDH ICU offers extensive
education opportunities, including echocardiography and support for CICM part 1 and 2 examinations.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Provide care and along with admitting, managing and discharging ICU patients under the supervision of the ICU
consultant.
- Provide, with other members of the medical and nursing workforce, routine and emergency after hours care as a member
of rapid response team.
- Conduct regular ICU ward rounds incorporating teaching to a multi-disciplinary team.
- Promote and participate in recognised principles of clinical practice and case management.
- Provide support and evaluate the work of subordinate ICU medical and nursing staff.
- Participate in continuous medical education including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional
development, peer review, research, teaching, quality improvement activities and clinical audits.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Unconditional medical registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
2. Registered member in a critical care training pathway in an Australian College (CICM, ANZCA, ACEM) and expected to
complete training within 2 years.
3. Commitment to and progression in the training program. Evidence can be sought from the respective colleges.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively in a cross-cultural work
environment with interest and a commitment to improving Indigenous health.
5. Ability to work collaboratively and follow standardised clinical guidelines
6. Ability to work on a roster covering day, evening, night and weekend shifts
