Primary objective
Training position to achieve a range of competencies for Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (AChSHM) sexual
health physician training.
Context statement
The position sits within the Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Unit of Centre for Disease Control Darwin.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide clinical and public health management for sexually transmitted and blood borne virus infections in Clinic 34s
under the supervision and direction of staff specialists.
2. Participate in public health responses to incidents such as outbreak investigation and management and emergency
management.
3. Participate in and coordinate projects that may arise within sexual health.
4. Participate in the development and implementation of policies and programs across sexual health medicine.
5. Engage in activities relating to media, public messaging/alerts, and teaching and applying research to practice.
6. Participate in the AChSHM training program.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Medical Practitioner eligible for general or conditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Advanced trainee of AChSHM or qualifications and experience suitable for acceptance as an advanced trainee of the
AChSHM.
3. Demonstrated appropriate interpersonal, communication and organisational skills, including the ability to liaise with a
range of health professionals, both in hospital and community based settings.
4. Experience in sexual health medicine and a proven ability to demonstrate clinical and operational skills in the field.
5. Evidence of conceptual and analytical skills that may include previous research experience.
6. Knowledge of current and emerging NT public health issues related to sexually transmitted infections.
7. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant specialty.
2. Specific experience in public health practice.
