Primary objective
Deliver interstate liaison services by providing advice, consultation, coordination and training to staff to enhance their knowledge
and understanding of the processes and procedures regarding interstate child welfare matters.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide a high level of professional expertise and demonstrated best practice in the delivery of statutory responsibilities

regarding Interstate and New Zealand transfers including, court orders, case management and assessment functions.
2. Undertake responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act, and in accordance with the

national Interstate Liaison protocol, information privacy practices, departmental policies and procedures.
3. Maintain delivery of timely, high quality services to clients through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated

best practice in the delivery of statutory and non-statutory welfare services.
4. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the Departments client

information system.
5. Contribute to the overall management of the office, including data collection, practice standards and program development to

achieve an integrated best practice approach to service delivery.
6. Responsible for the provision of coaching, training and development of staff.
7. A requirement to travel intrastate may be required, whether by road or light aircraft.
8. Delivery of surge professional services to the central intake team, placement team or adoptions function as required.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers

Association, the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of
Child, Youth and Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child
Protection).

2. Significant knowledge and understanding of the legislation and policy frameworks relevant to statutory welfare practice in the
Northern Territory.

3. Significant knowledge and understanding of child and family welfare methods, principles and ethics.
4. Highly developed organisational and time management skills, ability to work independently to prioritise and coordinate tasks,

and a well-developed ability to work under pressure while achieving quality client outcomes.
5. Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including an ability to communicate complex issues to a wide audience

in a clear and concise manner.
6. Demonstrated experience in supervising, leading and developing others, contributing to their professional development.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate within client information management systems to maintain timely, accurate records with

attention to detail and practice information privacy principles.
8. Deliver professional assessment services in placements, adoptions or central intake team to meet surge demand as required.
9. Current NT driver’s licence or ability to obtain.

Desirable
1. Experience in the delivery of services in central intake, placement or adoption functions.
