Position: Senior Registrar

Department: General Surgery | Colorectal
Location: Tweed Valley Hospital

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity at an accredited surgical training hospital for a Surgical Senior Registrar, working in a supportive, structured teaching environment. This role is in conjunction with providing services to John Flynn Private Hospital in Tugun, QLD.

You will be part of a collegiate team of 10 general surgery VMOs and registrars working across a 7day roster. You will have access to weekly education sessions and mentorship from consultants with an open-door policy to assist in developing your surgical proficiency.

These positions offer a real opportunity to expand your skills and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment.

About Tweed Valley Hospital

This is an exciting opportunity to join Tweed Valley Hospital, your primary work location and a new, major referral hospital at the heart of the network of hospitals and health facilities across the Tweed-Byron region, also including Murwillumbah District & Byron Central Hospitals. What you'll be doing

The Colorectal Senior Registrar works with Colorectal Surgeons within the Surgical Department. Responsibilities include the clinical care and surgical management of emergency and elective colorectal and general surgical patients under the supervision of specialist staff; guidance of colorectal team junior doctors; management of departmental educational meetings; off site on-call duties. The Senior Registrar will gain further knowledge, skills and confidence in the practice of Colorectal and General Surgery, attending regular theatre lists, emergency operating as required on a daily basis and additional endoscopy lists. You will also be required to participate in the on-call roster.

MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Minimum five years post graduate experience with previous experience in General Surgery. Applicants are required to have obtained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) before they can be considered for appointment

Sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent senior registrar

Teamwork and leadership skills

Excellent time management and organisational skills

Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills

Experience in teaching both undergraduate & postgraduate students
