The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Service, within Developmental Paediatrics, provides specialist multidisciplinary assessments for children with prenatal alcohol exposure who show complex neurodevelopmental and behavioural symptoms. The service also delivers clinical education, information and resources to clinicians working with families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).
About the Role
The Indigenous Community Development Worker (ICDW) reports to the Statewide Practice Manager and will work closely with the clinical coordinators, FASD Services clinical teams and the Statewide Practice Manager, supporting them in their work with highly vulnerable children and families by delivering effective and efficient support.
The ICDW provides culturally safe, relationship-based support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, young people, and their families engaged with FASD services at Monash Health.
The ICDW supports families in navigating the FASD assessment process, strengthening access to culturally safe services, and contributing to trauma-aware, strengths-based assessment and healing-informed pathways. The ICDW works collaboratively with the MDT to ensure that Aboriginal cultural knowledge, family structures, and self-determination are respected and embedded throughout FASD service delivery.
The Indigenous Community Development Worker also contributes cultural and family insights to multidisciplinary team discussions, helps families understand consent and how their information will be used, and supports them in navigating services. This includes linking families with ACCHOs, ACCO’s, community supports, schools, and early learning services.
