About the role
This is a role for a Registered Nurse who has ED experience but is interested in broader clinical exposure, greater autonomy and the chance to make a visible impact. Roles are primarily based in the Emergency Department, with opportunities to rotate across other nursing areas and wards.
Cowra’s brand new ED has been designed to support patient flow from ambulance arrival through to reception, nurse assessment and clinical care.
With 9,223 emergency presentations in 2025, Cowra six-bed unit delivers activity and variety and includes monitored beds, back-to-base monitoring, new resuscitation equipment and ECG technology that supports cloud-based access to results.
Cowra ED is strongly nurse-led. Nurses are central to assessment, patient flow and care coordination, with opportunities to work to broader scope through dedicated pathways such as ECAT protocols. On each shift there are two Registered Nurses rostered, a Doctor present in the department, an anaesthetist on call, and access to CT, MRI and ultrasound.
The general wards component adds another valuable dimension to the role. You will have the opportunity to build capability in renal, perioperative, general wards, community and district nursing, outpatients, chemotherapy and rural midwifery pathways. For nurses who want to stay clinically sharp, broaden their assessment skills and develop confidence across more than one setting, Cowra offers a strong platform.
