About the role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Environment Manager to support our Colac operation. This is a key leadership role focused on strengthening safety performance, embedding consistent systems and driving a genuine zero‑harm culture across the site.
Reporting to the Colac Site Manager and forming part of the Site Leadership Team, you will lead the development, implementation and ongoing embedment of AKD’s Safety Management System. The role requires a hands‑on, solutions‑focused professional who can influence leaders at all levels and translate safety frameworks into practical, site‑based outcomes.
About you
You are a credible and engaging HSE professional who combines technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. You are comfortable challenging existing practices where needed and partnering with operations to continuously improve health, safety and environmental performance.
A tertiary qualification in Health & Safety, Management (or similar) will be well regarded, as will substantial practical experience in a health and safety leadership role. Experience in manufacturing or timber processing is advantageous but not essential.
Key responsibilities
- Partnering with and providing expert support to the Colac Site Manager and Leadership Team
- Leading the implementation and continuous improvement of AKD’s Health & Safety Management Systems
- Supporting delivery of the National Health & Safety Plan at site level
- Building capability across the site through effective risk management and incident investigation practices
- Developing and delivering health and safety training, including JSAs, risk assessments and safety interactions
- Providing visible safety leadership, including coaching and mentoring frontline leaders
- Driving a behavioural‑based safety approach to improve overall HSE performance
- Influencing internal and external stakeholders to achieve sustainable safety outcomes
