What you'll be doing
Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) Mental Health Services are committed to building a professional Mental Health Peer Workforce that supports consumers living with mental illness and distress in their recovery journey. The Mental Health Peer Workforce in MNCLHD is comprised of employees who have a lived or living experience of mental ill health, suicide and recovery, in additional to life and work skills. It is important that the peer workforce is reflective of the diversity of the community of the Mid North Coast to ensure the best quality support people of all ages and backgrounds.
As the Aboriginal Peer Worker you will use lived experience as an Aboriginal person navigating your own mental health journey to support people using mental health service. You will build rapport and promote hope for the people you work with. You will ensure that the care pathways are culturally appropriate and people are given the appropriate support to access other services. There is also an aim that you will be able to contribute to building the cultural capacity of the service to work with Aboriginal people in environments and systems that are not always appropriate for Aboriginal people.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s. These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.
