Every day at The Big Banana Fun Park, we create memorable experiences for thousands of guests visiting one of Australia's most iconic tourist attractions. We're looking for a passionate, experienced and hands-on Junior Sous Chef to join our kitchen team across our food and beverage operations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who is ready to take the next step in their career. Working closely with our Head Chef, you'll help deliver fresh, high-quality food while supporting the day-to-day operations of a busy commercial kitchen.
About the Role
As our Junior Sous Chef, you'll play an important leadership role within the kitchen, assisting the Head Chef in maintaining exceptional food quality, kitchen operations and team performance.
This is a hands-on position where you'll lead by example, preparing and presenting meals to a consistently high standard while helping mentor and support our kitchen team. Our café operates primarily during the day, offering an excellent work-life balance, with occasional evening functions and special events throughout the year.
No two days are the same. From preparing breakfast and lunch service to assisting with menu development, stock control and training team members, you'll be an integral part of creating memorable dining experiences for our guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef with the day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
- Prepare, cook and present fresh, high-quality meals to a consistently high standard.
- Supervise and support kitchen staff throughout service.
- Lead by example in maintaining exceptional food quality, presentation and consistency.
- Ensure all food safety, hygiene and WHS standards are maintained.
- Assist with stock ordering, stock rotation and inventory control.
- Minimise food waste and contribute to effective cost control.
- Help train, mentor and develop junior kitchen team members.
- Work collaboratively with the front-of-house team to deliver an outstanding guest experience.
- Assist with menu preparation and seasonal menu development where required.
- Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment.

We'd Love If You Have
- Previous experience as a Junior Sous Chef, Chef de Partie or similar leadership role.
- Experience working in a high-volume café, restaurant or commercial kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, HACCP principles and safe food handling practices.
- Experience with stock ordering, stock control and kitchen cost management.
- A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain) is highly regarded.
- Relevant commercial cookery qualifications.
Availability
This is a full-time position. Successful applicants must be available to work a rotating roster, including weekdays, weekends, school holiday periods and public holidays. While the role is primarily daytime hours, flexibility to assist with occasional evening functions and events is required.
