The Student Wellbeing Department is dedicated to championing the health, safety and overall wellbeing of Holmesglen students, creating a supportive environment where every learner can thrive. From short-term counselling and mental health support to crisis intervention, our services span all campuses to ensure students have access to care when they need it most.
Beyond individual support, the department leads a range of targeted welfare programs that address critical student needs—including financial assistance, housing support, food security and access to health services like bulk-billed GP appointments. By working closely with internal departments and community partners, we help students build resilience, stay connected, and have a fulfilling educational experience.
The purpose of this role is to provide strategic leadership in the development and delivery of high-quality clinical counselling and welfare assistance to support student wellbeing and success across the institute.
The Counselling and Support Services Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the lead counsellor, welfare officers and youth workers and working collaboratively with internal departments to foster a safe, supportive and inclusive campus environment.
The Counselling and Support Services Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating programs, policies and initiatives that promote psychological wellbeing, prevention, early intervention and student success.
As a Counselling and Support Services Manager, you will:
Lead the strategic development, implementation, and continuous improvement of student wellbeing initiatives through the effective management of a multidisciplinary team of qualified counsellors and welfare officers. Oversee the design and delivery of innovative programs and policies that enhance mental health support and promote holistic student wellbeing across the Institute.

Drive cultural transformation by fostering strong internal and external partnerships that champion student mental health and wellbeing, cultivating a culture of care, inclusion, and resilience within the broader organisational environment.

Provide high-level, evidence-informed advice and expert consultation on mental health and wellbeing matters to senior stakeholders, including Deans, Heads of Department, and Education Managers, ensuring alignment with sector best practices and institutional objectives.

Oversee the operational planning and service delivery of Counselling and Welfare teams to ensure alignment with institutional goals, including monitoring performance against strategic targets and reporting on outcomes to executive leadership.

Lead the development and delivery of a broad portfolio of psychosocial and mental health programs, including emotional intelligence, resilience, mental health literacy, and team-building initiatives, to enhance student capability and engagement.
To be successful, you’ll have:
Post-graduate qualifications in psychology or counselling, social work or related mental health discipline

Full registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA), or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or Australian Counselling Association (ACA) or Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).

A strong background in delivering professional counselling, welfare and youth support, particularly within student settings, and a deep understanding of the mental health challenges commonly faced by students throughout the post-secondary education lifecycle, grounded in ethical practice, with a solid grasp of case management processes relevant to student wellbeing services.

Demonstrated success in leading mental health initiatives and student counselling programs, with a proven ability to implement and manage change effectively.

- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and lead projects using data-informed evaluation and continuous improvement approaches, extending to project planning and evaluation, using data and analysis to assess effectiveness, alongside a strong working knowledge of welfare services, referral networks, and regulatory standards such as TEQSA and ASQA.

Current Victorian Drivers licence.
WWCC and Police Check:
Appointment to this position is dependent on obtaining a Victorian ‘employee’ Working with Children Check, and a valid Police Check within the last 12 months.
