Role Description
BGe is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team of building services consultants. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer to gain hands on experience across range oof energy efficiency projects, including Section J Compliance (both DTS and J1V3 Performance Solutions), energy audits, mechanical services design and upgrade projects, building services feasibility studies and renewable energy feasibility studies.
The ideal candidate has a mechanical engineering background with an interest in sustainability and building services. This role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from data collection and modelling through to client delivery and project management during construction. The ideal candidate can independently manage projects while contributing to company growth through client engagement and opportunity development.
Key Responsibilities
Energy Audits, Section J, NABERS, and assessments
· Assist in delivering Type 1 & 2 Energy Audits (AS/NZS 3598),
· Assist in identifying and modelling Energy Savings Measures (ESMs) with financial/payback analysis,
· Prepare board-level compliance and audit reports,
· Deliver Section J compliance reports (DTS & Performance Solutions) and Expert Rulings,
· Support NABERS Energy assessments, analysis and strategies to improve ratings,
· Analyse large interval meter data and building performance trends,
· Support ongoing tuning and optimisation initiatives,
· Support in conducting feasibility studies (Solar PV, electrification, heat pumps, building services upgrades),
· Support renewable energy procurement and delivery.
HVAC Engineering and Design
· Support in performing HVAC assessments and diagnostics,
· Support in identification of plant inefficiencies and control strategy improvements,
· Design HVAC upgrades including plant replacement and control optimisation,
· Develop energy-efficient redesign strategies,
· Prepare mechanical documentation, calculations, specifications, and scopes of work,
Project Management
· Manage end-to-end HVAC upgrade and installation projects,
· Oversee contractors, budgets, procurement, and timelines,
· Coordinate with building owners, facility managers, and stakeholders,
· Ensure WHS compliance and Quality assurance,
· Support commissioning and testing post-installation.
Business Development
· Support in drafting proposals and tenders,
· Attend client meetings and presentations,
· Identify opportunities within existing client portfolios,
· Support lead generation and contribute to closing sales,
· Contribute to revenue targets and company growth initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (Master’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering desirable),
· Minimum 2 years demonstrated experience in:
o Building services engineering,
o Project management,
o Type 1 & Type 2 energy audits,
o Section J Compliance,
o NABERS optimisation.
· Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, calculations and selections,
· Experience in energy modelling and financial analysis,
· Advanced Excel and Word proficiency,
· Experience with energy modelling tools,
· Strong understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS),
· Strong technical report writing skills,
· Commercial awareness and sales support capability,
· Client-facing communication skills.
Desirable
· Accredited NABERS Assessor (Energy) or working towards accreditation,
· Knowledge of renewable energy systems (solar PV, battery storage),
· Familiarity with: National Construction Code (NCC), Section J compliance, ASHRAE, Australian Standards and State-based energy schemes (e.g., NSW ESS),
· Previous exposure to energy modelling software (BERS Pro, Green Star, or similar),
· Experience with FineHVAC or similar ventilation design software.
