This is an Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander identified position which is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact
As a valued member of the Criminal Law Practice, you’ll be at the heart of our mission, providing vital administrative and legal support that ensures mob receive culturally safe, respectful, and effective services. Each day, you will:

Support the Criminal Law team by organising client files, managing data, and maintaining accurate records.
Liaise with clients, solicitors, court staff, and key stakeholders to support effective legal services.
Manage reception duties, phone calls, and provide administrative support to Criminal Law Solicitors.
Prepare legal documents and correspondence using Microsoft Office, ensuring accuracy and professionalism.
Maintain office systems, court rosters, and equipment while upholding a welcoming, culturally safe environment.
Work collaboratively with colleagues and the community, showing respect for Aboriginal cultural practices in all interactions.

You are a dedicated and community-minded Administration Officer who understands and respects the cultural, social, and historical experiences that shape the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You bring strong administrative skills, cultural awareness, and a deep commitment to supporting mob and justice. Your strengths include:

Be a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, recognised by your community.
Understands the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal communities and supports clients, families, and communities with cultural awareness.
Strong commitment to social justice and culturally appropriate professional conduct.
Proven administrative, organisational, and time-management skills, including Microsoft Office proficiency and multitasking ability.
Excellent communication skills, phone manner, confidentiality, and ability to work independently or collaboratively.
Desirable: experience in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander community organisations or legal practice.
