Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) — Onsite.

Security Clearance: Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1)

About the Role

The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) is seeking experienced Senior Test Analysts to support the delivery of secure, high-quality ICT systems within a complex government environment. The successful candidates will play a key role in planning, designing, executing and managing testing activities across the software development lifecycle to ensure solutions meet business, functional and non-functional requirements.

Working closely with business stakeholders, developers and project teams, you will develop comprehensive test strategies, perform system integration and user acceptance testing, manage defects, and ensure full traceability between requirements and testing outcomes. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide expert testing advice while maintaining high standards of quality assurance.

This is an onsite contract opportunity based in Canberra, supporting nationally significant cyber security and intelligence capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Liaise with business stakeholders to understand requirements, business risks and define clear, measurable acceptance criteria.
Collaborate with development teams to understand system architecture, integrations, infrastructure, constraints and potential impacts of change.
Develop, maintain and execute comprehensive test strategies, test plans and test cases.
Perform System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and regression testing to validate software functionality and quality.
Identify, analyse, document, prioritise and manage software defects through to resolution and re-testing.
Ensure full traceability between business requirements, acceptance criteria, test scenarios and test cases.
Apply appropriate testing methodologies, techniques and best practices to achieve effective test coverage.
Produce and maintain high-quality testing documentation, including test plans, execution reports and testing metrics.
Assess testing risks and recommend mitigation strategies to support successful project delivery.
Contribute to quality assurance activities by ensuring compliance with organisational standards, policies and procedures.
Provide expert advice on testing approaches, tools and processes to improve testing effectiveness.
Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams to deliver secure, high-quality ICT solutions.

Requirements

Essential

Demonstrated experience as a Senior Test Analyst within large-scale ICT environments.
Strong experience developing and executing test strategies, test plans and test cases.
Experience performing System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and regression testing.
Proven ability to manage the full defect lifecycle, including identification, prioritisation, reporting and verification.
Experience defining acceptance criteria and ensuring requirements traceability.
Strong understanding of software testing methodologies, quality assurance principles and industry best practices.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
Ability to analyse business requirements and translate them into effective testing activities.
Current Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance (minimum).
Australian Citizenship.
Ability to work onsite in Canberra, ACT.

Desirable

Experience working within Australian Government or Defence environments.
Knowledge of SFIA testing competencies.
Experience with enterprise testing tools and defect management platforms.
Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies.
Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives and testing standards.
