ROLE SUMMARY
The Geospatial Analyst is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of geospatial data products. The role involves performing advanced spatial analysis, developing data processing workflows, and ensuring the quality, integrity, and usability of large-scale geospatial datasets.
The position operates within a multidisciplinary data team and contributes to the delivery of national-scale geospatial data products used across government and commercial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced spatial and statistical analysis of large geospatial datasets to identify patterns, relationships, and data quality issues
- Develop and maintain geospatial data processing workflows using tools such as FME, Python, and GIS platforms
- Design, build, and maintain spatial data models, ensuring data integrity, accuracy, and compliance with technical specifications
- Conduct data validation and quality assurance processes, including automated and manual checks
- Query, manipulate, and manage spatial datasets using SQL and spatial databases (e.g. PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
- Produce spatial outputs, including datasets, maps, and analytical visualisations, to support product development and decision-making
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business and product requirements into technical data solutions
- Maintain technical documentation, including data specifications, metadata, and workflow processes
- Exercise professional judgement in the interpretation and validation of complex spatial datasets
- Identify data issues and recommend improvements to enhance data quality, processes, and methodologies
- Stay current with developments in geospatial technologies, data analytics, and industry best practices
Skills & Experience
- Minimum one year relevant experience
- Tertiary qualification in geospatial science, data science, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience applying geospatial analysis techniques in a professional environment
- Strong knowledge of spatial data concepts, including coordinate systems, datums, topology, and spatial relationships
- Experience working with geospatial tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and FME
- Experience working with spatial databases and querying data using SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
- Experience using scripting or automation tools (e.g. Python) for geospatial data processing
- Proven ability to analyse complex datasets and identify data quality issues and improvement opportunities
- Ability to communicate technical concepts and insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
