Your Role

If you’re looking to make a difference with your qualifications, the Army Reserve has an exciting opportunity for you.

As a part-time Education Officer, you’ll play a crucial role in teaching the Australian Army. You will get to utilise your teaching skills in a unique environment, adding the challenge of military duties and exercise to your everyday role.

You’ll also be responsible for training and mentoring program developers, design technology-based learning materials and monitoring and assessing training activities. There is also the opportunity to provide coaching to staff cadets in communication skills and contribute to the training strategy.

Whether you’re preparing teaching materials, mentoring new recruits or assessing the knowledge of soldiers, you’ll be gaining leadership skills and practical knowledge to take back to your full-time role.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.

On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn at least $266/day tax-free.

Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.

Life in the Army Reserve

Thousands of men and women enjoy part-time roles with the Army Reserve, operating alongside full-time Army personnel. The only difference is that your commitment is flexible.

Initial training length will vary based on your chosen role, after which you will normally be expected to serve between 20 and 100 days per year, with scope to serve more days if they are available. This could involve one night a week, one weekend a month or a few weeks a year.

We do our best to make sure this fits in with your work and family commitments; and deployments are voluntary so if you choose to stay local, there are plenty of ways to make a difference closer to home. And with no minimum period of service, you can leave the Army Reserve whenever you like.

Eligibility

You must have completed a suitable teaching or education degree or have had formal teacher training and be considered eligible for registration as a teacher in your State or Territory. You also must have relevant teaching experience.

You must be an Australian citizen and able to successfully obtain a security clearance.
