Position- Metal Fabricator-Welder (Fencing & Gates)
Primary Purpose of the Role
To fabricate, weld, and assemble aluminium, steel and stainless fencing and gate products to a high standard, while also supporting general workshop duties and contributing to the day-to-day flow of operations. This role includes the potential to take on leadership responsibilities, including mentoring future welder or apprentice staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Fabrication & Welding
· Weld and fabricate fencing and gates using both aluminium, steel and stainless steel materials.
- Use MIG, TIG, or other applicable welding techniques to suit material and finish requirements.
- Cut, mark out, and prepare materials accurately as per project drawings and instructions.
- Interpret and work from technical drawings and understand standard fencing styles (e.g. spear top, flat top, slat fencing, security, chainwire etc.).
- Assemble and fit components with precision to meet design specifications.
- Carry out quality checks to ensure all work meets company standards and specifications.
- Conduct basic maintenance on welding tools and equipment to ensure they are safe, operational, fit for purpose and proactively maintained.
Workshop Operations
- Pick materials accurately from bin locations based on job sheets and cutting lists.
- Keep the work area clean, organised, and in safe working condition.
- Create and manage purchase orders for tools, consumables, and equipment repairs relevant to the role.
- Perform general workshop tasks and step into other duties as required to meet deadlines.
Logistics & Flexibility
- If urgently required, assist with driving materials or finished products to and from external services (e.g. powder coating suppliers).
- Work flexibly within the team to support changing priorities or urgent jobs.
Leadership & Development
- Ability and willingness to supervise, mentor or train an apprentice or additional fabricator when needed.
- Maintain a positive, team-oriented approach and contribute to a safe and productive workplace culture.
Skills and Experience Required
- Min 5years proven welding and fabrication experience with both aluminium, steel and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and understand basic fencing style terminology.
- Skilled in enhancing work efficiency through the development of jigs and optimized calculation and production methods & workflow.
- Competence in workshop machinery (e.g. drop saws, grinders, drills, etc.).
- Trade qualification in Metal Fabrication, Welding, or a related field
- Competence in computer literacy for work orders.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Forklift licence (desirable).
- Valid driver’s licence.
- White card (desirable).
- Previous experience in a small team or workshop environment preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to safely lift and handle material.
- Standing, bending, and manual handling for extended periods.
Employment Details
- Position: Full‑time -$77000-$85000 a year
- Hours: 38 hours per week +Superannuation
- Location: NSW
Pay: $77,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
