Set on the foothills of Mt Bellenden Ker, Bellenden Ker State School is situated 12 kilometres north of Babinda and around 35 kilometres south of Cairns on the Bruce Highway. The school has been a part of the local community since 1922 and is committed to helping all students achieve their full potential. About the Role:
Contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting teachers with the preparation and enhancement of learning materials and associated activities.
The Teacher Aide reports to the Principal or nominated delegate as appropriate. The reporting relationship to teachers may be changed by the Principal on a regular basis to fulfil specific needs within the school. When supporting students with specific health procedures, a Teacher Aide will be under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse or medical practitioner.
Responsibilities:
Support teachers with classroom activities, excursions, sporting events, and playground/bus supervision.
Assist students individually and in small groups, including literacy and numeracy support.
Support students with additional needs, including personal care where required (with appropriate training).
Prepare, organise, maintain, and stocktake teaching resources and equipment.
Complete administrative tasks such as class rolls, photocopying, typing, exam preparation, student records, and organising off-site activities.
Maintain student records and monitor progress through anecdotal observations.
Read with students, tell stories, and assist with practical lessons (e.g. science, cooking, textiles).
Provide first aid (with current certification) and contribute to student health, safety, and wellbeing.
Handle confidential information professionally and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families.
