Tropic Tours is seeking a passionate, reliable and enthusiastic Tour Guide / Eco-Guide to join our small, boutique touring business based in Cairns.
This role would suit someone who has a genuine love for the Wet Tropics, conservation, wildlife, rainforest ecology, and the rich cultural history of Tropical North Queensland. We are looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people, sharing stories, and creating meaningful, memorable experiences for visitors from all over the world.
You may already have proven guiding experience and strong local knowledge, or you may be someone with a passion for this field and a strong willingness to learn.
About the Role
As a Tropic Tours guide, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality small-group touring experiences across the Wet Tropics region. This includes driving guests safely, providing engaging commentary, supporting a warm and welcoming tour environment, and representing Tropic Tours with professionalism and pride.
You will need to be confident communicating with people from a wide range of backgrounds and be able to deliver an experience that is educational, enjoyable, respectful and memorable.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A genuine passion for the Wet Tropics, conservation, wildlife, rainforest environments, and Tropical North Queensland
- An interest in Indigenous history, culture and connection to Country, with a respectful and open-minded approach to learning and sharing knowledge
- Excellent customer service skills
- A vibrant, friendly and engaging personality
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with guests from around the world
- A reliable, loyal and trustworthy nature
- A professional attitude and pride in delivering a high-quality guest experience
- Proven knowledge and/or experience in guiding, environmental science, conservation, wildlife, land management, tourism or a related field — or a strong willingness to learn
Mandatory Requirements
- Current Queensland driver licence
- Excellent driving record
- Confidence driving passenger vehicles safely and responsibly
- Ability to work with small groups and provide a high level of guest care
- Reliability, punctuality and professionalism
Highly Regarded
- Current QLD Driver Authorisation
- Previous guiding experience in the Wet Tropics or Tropical North Queensland
- Knowledge of local wildlife, rainforest ecology, conservation, cultural history and regional storytelling
- Tourism, guiding, environmental science, biology, conservation, land management or related study/experience
