Description:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of ELMO’s financial operations. The role drives the end-to-end execution of the month-end close process, maintains key financial schedules, and ensures all transactions across ELMO subsidiaries are correctly recorded.
The Financial Accountant partners closely with the Accounts Payable Officer and broader Finance team to deliver smooth daily operations and high‑quality month‑end outcomes. The role also acts as a super user for ELMO’s financial system (NetSuite) and contributes to process improvements and cross‑functional projects.
Skills and Experiences:
Key Responsibilities:
Core Accounting & Month-End
Execute the month‑end close process, ensuring all transactions are accurately captured.
Prepare and maintain key schedules including prepayments, fixed assets, and other balance sheet reconciliations.
Complete and review bank reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and key ledger accounts.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Support the preparation of monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
Assist with financial analysis to support decision‑making and identify improvement opportunities.
Compliance & Audit
Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to queries.
Assist with tax compliance activities, including gathering information for BAS and other filings.
Ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
Operational Support
Review and monitor employee expense claims for policy compliance.
Work closely with the Accounts Payable Officer on vendor processing and payment cycles.
Act as a super user for NetSuite, supporting system optimisation and best practice usage.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
Contribute to finance process improvements, automation initiatives, and cross‑functional projects.
Support the Finance Manager with ad‑hoc analysis and operational tasks as required.
Positional Qualifications, Attributes and Skills:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or a related field.
CPA qualification (mandatory).
3–5 years’ experience in accounting or audit, ideally with exposure to a tier‑1 accounting practice.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
High proficiency in Excel.
Highly analytical with commercial awareness.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly and confidently.
Proven problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Collaborative team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
Experience with NetSuite.
Experience in cloud‑based software or SaaS environments.
Commercial experience outside of public practice.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s):
Accuracy & Compliance
All month‑end reconciliations completed accurately and on time.
Fixed Asset Register and Prepayments Register maintained and updated within deadlines.
BAS preparation completed by the required monthly/quarterly due dates.
Timeliness of Month‑End Close
Month‑end processing finalised by the 6th business day.
All supporting schedules prepared and reviewed within agreed timelines.
Operational Excellence
Weekly review of Accounts Payable postings and payments completed with no material errors.
Issues identified and resolved proactively to support a smooth close.
