Full Job Description

Portal Contractors is a specialist earthworks and excavation contractor delivering complex basement and civil works on Tier 1 commercial projects across Melbourne. From deep excavation and bulk earthworks to piling, capping beams, shotcrete walls, and full retention systems.

We're looking for an experienced Steel Fixer / Labourer to join our crew on shotcrete wall, pad and capping beam preparation. This is hands-on work for someone who knows how to set up reinforcement accurately, works safely, and takes pride in getting walls and beams ready for pour on program.

What you'll be doing

Drilling dowel bars and installing anchors into retention structures and rock/soil faces
Hanging and positioning steel mesh for shotcrete and structural walls
Tying column starter bars and setting out reinforcement to drawings
Steel fixing and reinforcement placement for pads, footings and capping beams
Preparing shotcrete walls — fixing mesh, dowels and fixings ready for spray
Cutting, bending and tying reinforcement to specified spacings and tolerances
Checking levels and assisting surveyors with set-out tasks
Site clean-up and housekeeping to maintain safe, organised work zones
Supporting piling, capping beam and bulk earthworks operations as directed

What you need

Proven steel fixing / reinforcement experience on commercial or civil projects
White Card (General Construction Induction Card)
Confident reading and working to reinforcement drawings and set-out
Experience with shotcrete wall, pad and capping beam preparation
Reliable attendance — you show up, on time, every day
Ability to work outdoors in all conditions
Good communication and the ability to follow directions safely
Valid driver's licence (preferred)
