Clinical Assistant Job Description
BBES Services WA Pty Ltd atf B&RES Service Unit Trust trading as Bunbury and Busselton Eye Specialist is seeking an experienced full time Clinical Assistant to work under supervision of our specialists to provide ophthalmic care and support to our patients between our busy ophthalmology practices in Bunbury and Busselton.
Clinical Assistants take the patient on the first part of their journey at our practice and the position duties include:
· taking patient’s medical history;
· performing external examination of the eye;
· administration of eye drops;
· taking patients’ visual acuity;
· undertaking diagnostic scans and medical imaging using specialised ophthalmic technology;
· operation of Eyestar and autorefraction and focimetry prior to and post cataract surgery;
· setting up and assisting our specialists during minor procedures;
· setting up and assisting our specialists during injection clinics;
· patient education and support about eye conditions and vision loss;
· infection prevention and control; and
· sterilization of equipment and surgical instruments.
Applicants must have a minimum of 1 years’ recent experience of working in a similar role in Ophthalmology. It is essential that the candidate have a relevant nursing background, Registered Nurse, Diploma level or higher and can demonstrate a good understanding of chronic eye diseases and sudden vision loss and their management. They should also be able to show experience and understanding of the set up / assistance and sterilisation requirements of a range of common minor ophthalmic procedures.
The ideal candidate will have a proven history working in a team, with great interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and sympathetically with our many patients.
Candidates must be available to work between the hours of 7.00 – 6.00 Monday to Friday. Salary is paid at level 6 of the Health Professionals and Support Services Award 2010 and is dependent on experience.
