The Role
We are seeking an experienced Connex Developer / Support Specialist to join a high-performing payments technology team.
This role is focused on the development, enhancement, support, and ongoing maintenance of the Connex Payment Switch running on IBM Mainframe (z/OS). You will play a key role in ensuring the stability, reliability, and performance of business-critical payment processing systems while supporting regulatory, compliance, and modernisation initiatives.
The ideal candidate will bring strong Connex and Mainframe expertise, a solid understanding of payment processing environments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with architects, designers, vendors, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide build, enhancement, and production support for the Connex Payment Switch on IBM Mainframe (z/OS).
- Review, assess, and provide recommendations on vendor-proposed Connex changes and customisations.
- Collaborate closely with Solution Designers, Architects, and delivery teams to support business and technical initiatives.
- Enhance and maintain Host Scheme Payment Interfaces (PIs) during regulatory and compliance releases.
- Support migration and modernisation initiatives, including Connex integration with new payment switch platforms.
- Monitor the health, performance, and stability of the Connex Mainframe environment.
- Apply vendor-supplied Connex maintenance updates, including configuration and code changes.
- Implement additions, modifications, and deletions of Payment Interfaces (PIs), Transaction Handlers (THs), and associated batch processes.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and develop fixes for Connex-related production incidents and defects.
- Participate in system testing, release management, and deployment activities to ensure high-quality delivery.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of Payment Switch functionality and payment processing environments.
- 2 to 20 years of experience in Connex support, development, or a similar payments technology role.
- Proven expertise in gathering, documenting, and analysing functional and technical requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in dynamic environments and adapt to evolving technologies and project requirements.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently as well as within a team.
- Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on testing, quality assurance, and production stability.
- Excellent collaboration and stakeholder management skills.

- Extensive experience with Connex configuration and support on IBM z/OS.
