The Australian Army is seeking motivated people interested in truck driving, logistics, heavy vehicles and hands-on work to explore the Driver Specialist pathway.
As an Army Driver Specialist, you can receive paid training to operate Army medium and heavy vehicles, including the Truck Medium Weight 40M and Truck Heavy HX77. Training includes public road driving, difficult terrain driving, day and night driving, vehicle recovery, loading and securing cargo, bulk liquid transport, vehicle maintenance and transport safety.
PAY AND BENEFITS
You are paid while you train.
Army Driver starting salary:
$60,517 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation
Once trained, your salary increases to:
$82,322 per annum plus 16.4% superannuation
Further progression is tied to further experience and training. All of which is paid.
TRAINING PATHWAY
The pathway includes Army recruit training followed by Driver Specialist employment training. Army Driver Training Course is approximately 60 days in Puckapunyal, Victoria.
The Driver Specialist course includes practical training in:
- Medium and heavy vehicle operation
- Cargo loading, securing and unloading
- Vehicle inspections and operator maintenance
- Public road driving
- Difficult terrain driving
- Night driving
- Vehicle recovery
- Bulk liquid transport
- Dangerous goods / Commonwealth explosives awareness
- Transport documentation and safety procedures
- Communications and tactical vehicle operations
CIVILIAN-EQUIVALENT LICENCE EXPOSURE
Army Driver Specialist training and career progression can provide experience broadly aligned with civilian heavy vehicle licence pathways, including:
- Medium Rigid (MR)
- Heavy Rigid (HR)
- Heavy Combination (HC)
- Multi Combination (MC)
- Specialist heavy vehicle and trailer pathways later in career progression
Initial training includes experience on:
- Truck Medium Weight 40M – broadly aligned to medium rigid vehicle operation
- Truck Heavy HX77 – broadly aligned to heavy rigid vehicle operation
Recognition of prior driving experience, licences or training may also be considered during the recruitment process where relevant.
