We are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Junior Sous Chef to join our kitchen team. Working closely with the Head Chef and senior kitchen team, this role is responsible for supporting the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes and pastry offerings across daily service, functions, and weddings.
Role Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and present high-quality meals, desserts, pastries, cakes, and baked items for daily service and special events;
- Assist with the development and refinement of seasonal menus and pastry offerings;
- Ensure consistency in food quality, portioning, and presentation standards;
- Support smooth kitchen operations during busy service periods and private functions;
- Assist in stock ordering, inventory control, and minimising food waste;
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen cleanliness in accordance with HACCP and workplace health and safety requirements;
- Supervise and support junior kitchen staff and apprentice chefs;
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure efficient service delivery;
- Assist with recipe standardisation, food costing, and operational efficiency.
Ideal Background
- Relevant qualifications at Certificate IV level or higher in Commercial Cookery or Kitchen Management;
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in a commercial kitchen environment;
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie, Junior Sous Chef, or similar supervisory kitchen role;
- Strong pastry, baking, and dessert preparation skills;
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities;
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced hospitality environment;
- Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards;
- Café, bistro, brunch, or function/event experience will be highly regarded;
- Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and peak service periods.
- Australian work rights preferred.
