Cook Position at Okami Japanese Restaurant

Job Types: Full-time

Okami is one of the biggest and fast-growing Japanese restaurants in Australia. Due to our expanding business, we are now seeking for a full-time Cook to be a part of our team. The successful applicant must have relevant experience working in a fast-paced high volume kitchen environment.

What we offer:

Main duties and responsibilities include:

· Inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices;

· Regulate temperatures of cooking equipment;

· Prepare, cook and season foods according to recipes or personal judgment and experience;

· Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or piercing them with utensils.

· Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment;

· Apply a range of cooking methods, such as braising, frying, roasting or steaming;

· Portion, arrange and garnish food, and serve food to waiting staff;

· Store food in temperature controlled facilities;

· Estimate expected food consumption and organize preparation;

· Coordinate and supervise work of kitchen staff;

· May train kitchen staff and apprentices

Essential skills:

· Good understanding of Asian/Japanese cuisine and culture

· Be reliable, punctual and organized

· Ability to skilfully multitask

· Good time management and communication skills

· Understand OH&S in a kitchen environment
