What you’ll do:
Based at our global headquarters in Brisbane, this role will lead all operational, technical and strategic aspects of chemical and laboratory services across the Business Unit. The role will support delivery of the Santos 2040 vision to become the safest, lowest-cost and most reliable operator, with a focus on achieving top-quartile efficiency and cost performance within 2–3 years.
A key responsibility will be the development and implementation of a Chemical and Laboratory Services strategic framework that ensures chemical management and laboratory services are delivered effectively—meeting business requirements and doing what needs to be done—efficiently, at the lowest sustainable cost, and in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Joint Venture (JV) agreements and industry standards and practices.
Key accountabilities include:

Manage the delivery of Laboratory services and Chemicals management across the Business Unit
- Ensure compliance to budget and DOA

Develop and implement the Chemical and Laboratory Services strategic framework covering how these services are to be specified, delivered and assured across Santos’ Operations

Manage stakeholders across Chemical and Laboratory services

Build relevant SMS documentation to capture the strategic framework deliverables including Quality Assurance activities
-
Drive continued development of the competency of the team

Own and deliver the assurance program on Chemical and Laboratory Services

Manage the integration of Laboratory Services data and information into an Enterprise Data Platform to enable end-users to extract relevant data as required

Manage the scoping and delivery of technical expertise in the Laboratory Services Contracting Category Plan (or similar) and drive Category Plan outcomes in conjunction with Procurement

Deliver Cheminformatics Modelling to realise efficiency and cost reduction

Establish a Chemical Services Community of Practice to drive sharing of learnings across RBU teams

Compliance with the Santos Management System (SMS)

Compliance with the Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA)

Compliance with the Santos Corporate Governance and Safety requirements.
What you’ll bring:
Change management and a strong continuous improvement mind set
Delivering a strategic view, collaborative nature and ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders will aid in your success in this role
Familiarity of the operation, calibration, and basic maintenance of analytical instruments, particularly gas chromatography, ion chromatography, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, induction coupled plasma, and mercury testing
Familiarity with chemical reaction types, chemical kinetics and chemical markers
Familiarity with laboratory quality control.
Working knowledge of process and instrumentation diagrams applicable to sample collection
Demonstrated knowledge of the physical properties of hydrocarbon mixtures, pressure vessel safety and pressure control devices
Strong computer literacy skills, including laboratory information management systems, enterprise resource planning (SAP), relational database applications, electronic operating documents, and MS Office applications
Ideally, you will be degree qualified (Chemistry, engineering or related discipline) or demonstrate significant training and experience within directly relevant role(s), within large corporate environments.
