About the role

Based at our global headquarters in Melbourne, this is a key leadership role within Orica’s Corporate Affairs function, shaping how we define and deliver sustainability across a global business. You’ll set direction, provide expert guidance to senior leaders, and ensure our commitments translate into practical, real-world outcomes.

Working at the centre of the organisation, you’ll partner closely with Executive leadership and the Board, navigating complex and often ambiguous sustainability challenges—from climate and energy transition through to human rights, ethical supply chains and community impact.

This role goes well beyond reporting and compliance. It’s about thought leadership, influence and stewardship—helping Orica anticipate emerging issues, make informed decisions, and operate as a responsible company in both word and action. You’ll also have the opportunity to put your own stamp on the role, shaping priorities and how the function delivers in practice.

What you will be doing

Provide thought leadership on sustainable business practices, shaping strategy and priorities across the organisation.
Lead Orica’s sustainability agenda across areas including reporting, governance, climate, community and human rights.
Partner with Executive and Board stakeholders, preparing insights, analysis and recommendations to support decision-making.
Drive sustainability disclosure, including investor engagement, ESG reporting and external communications.
Navigate emerging global risks and regulatory trends, ensuring the business is well-positioned and informed.
Build and maintain strong external networks with industry bodies, NGOs and sustainability experts.
Lead and develop a small, high-performing team.
Contribute to broader Corporate Affairs priorities, including policy development and stakeholder engagement.

What you will bring

Proven experience influencing senior leaders, ideally with exposure to Board-level engagement.
Strong understanding of global ESG trends, risks and regulatory expectations across complex organisations.
Ability to translate sustainability commitments into clear, practical actions and outcomes.
Experience operating across diverse areas such as climate, supply chain ethics, community and governance.
Commercially astute, able to balance sustainability priorities with business realities.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, challenge and build trust at all levels.
Experience working in or alongside global, operational or industrial environments is highly regarded.
Relevant tertiary qualification and extensive experience in sustainability, engineering, public policy or related fields.
