Based in New South Wales, Durkin has provided investigation and engineering consultancy services throughout Australia. Currently we have a need for field technicians in our Pavement Technology Department.

What We Are Looking For
We are recruiting an experienced, innovative Pavement Engineer to work in our Pavement Technology department. Whilst we want to recruit from within Australia we welcome applications from overseas in particular South Africa, USA, UK, Ireland or any other countries where your Civil Engineering degree is recognised by Engineers Australia. We can sponsor people to come to Australia with the relevant qualifications and experience
We have a multi cultural team ( Australian, Irish, English, Iranian, Filipino, Sri Lankan) and we accept and cherish the differences that each culture
We have our own NATA registered Construction Materials Laboratory, Truck Mounted Augers and Large Diameter Core Drills, HWD, LWD, Vehicle Mounted GPR with 3 horn antennas plus Density Testing and other QA Conformance equipment to help gather the data to do innovative designs. The skills of our Senior staff in building pavements prior to joining Durkin and our specialised expertise in electronic utility locating and potholing, CCTV Drainage Investigations enable our Pavement Engineers to have a full 3D picture of the sub surface elements that could impact their design. This enables us to generate buildable designs that identify and manage design and construction risk for the whole supply chain from design to construction

Job Tasks
Some of the specific job tasks that you will be responsible:
- Field compaction testing of earthworks and pavement layers.
- Carrying out construction materials testing, particularly soils and pavement materials, in both field and laboratory environments.
- Assisting with geotechnical investigations including field sampling, coring, potholing, and related site activities.
- Completing field documentation, worksheets, and testing records accurately in accordance with NATA requirements and company procedures.
- Ensuring all sampling and testing is traceable and completed as per relevant test methods and standards.
- Liaising with Senior Laboratory Technicians and Project Managers to ensure efficient delivery of field and laboratory works.
- Maintaining a strong focus on quality assurance, safety, and environmental compliance during all testing activities.
- Other general field and laboratory testing duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
A Degree in Civil Engineering
Membership of Engineers Australia for Pavement Engineers (or the ability to attain it)
1 year post graduate experience in Geotechnical Investigation or Pavement Design
Expertise in CIRCLY, Processing and Back Calculation of FWD data, interpretation of Bore/Core/DCP data as per Australian Pavement Design Guide highly desirable for Pavement Engineers
Familiarity with all Specifications/test methods associated with gathering data/samples on site and in the laboratory
Ability to write clear, accurate and well structured factual or Pavement Rehabilitation Reports for Pavement Engineers
Able to work effectively in a team.
A current NSW C-Class drivers licence
Strong Verbal and Written Communication skills
Client Focus
Highly regarded skills will include (we can train in this regard):
Familiarity with NATA rules and regulations
Ability to review GPR Pavement layer data and determine pavement layers, voids, delamination, stripping of bitumen, high levels of moisture
Leadership ability
