Where you'll be working
Morisset Hospital is a lake side campus with a rural, bushland surrounding. The Occupational Therapy team has a department model with opportunities to interchange between the three unique units on the campus based on clinical skill, service need and to facilitate continuity of care. The clinical caseload comprises of consumers who experience severe and enduring Mental Illness often with complex co-morbidities that require OT skills and knowledge in substance use, intellectual disability, issues of aging, metabolic syndrome, forensic and involuntary legal status. Consumers experience difficulty with communication, understanding of mental illness and symptoms, mobility, motivation, cognition.

The opportunity
Morisset Occupational Therapists provide core OT assessment, living skills interventions and discharge planning with a key focus on gathering evidence for NDIS supported discharge. You will assess and develop living skills with consumers who have transitioned from other Morisset units, acute services or community and facilitate ongoing transition focused on discharge planning into the community. Interventions are completed both 1:1 and in group settings. The OT has a key role in providing detailed Functional Reports and liaising closely with key stakeholders with the purpose of discharge planning (i.e. NDIS/HASI Plus).

You will contribute to reducing consumer length of stay by delivering OT services in the context of the Statewide Pathways to Community Living Initiative, including collaborating with the Community Transition Team.

You will continue strong links with the Yimamulinbinkaan – Aboriginal Mental Health Service & Workforce in collaboration around facilitating a culturally safe environment and programs that recognise significant cultural events as part of a commitment to Close the Gap to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers. Current and past employees report that a real highlight of the role is the co-location with other Allied Health staff in a shared office. The team is very focused on a shared vision for high-quality patient care and professional development. The team is also a very social group who initiate regular events both in and out of work hours to celebrate individual milestones and festive occasions.

This position reports to an OT Team Leader who is co-located in the shared office for daily huddles, schedule planning and discipline specific guidance.

About you
You will apply your skills in OT principles to utilise meaningful and purposeful activity such as;

Apply core occupational therapy (OT) principles, using meaningful and purposeful activities for assessment and intervention to support consumers' transition from hospital to supported community living.
Use creative and critical thinking to develop consumers’ living skills across diverse settings, including locked wards, home-style cottages, and a bushland/waterfront campus environment.
Demonstrate commitment to a respectful workplace by modelling the strategies of the HNE Workplace Harmony Framework and contributing to effective conflict resolution.
Work as an integral member of the wider OT team, collaborating closely with Allied Health and Nursing staff to deliver high-quality, consumer-centred care.
Facilitate rehabilitation and recovery-focused interventions across unit-based, campus-based, and community-based settings to support consumers’ goals and independence.

You will be line managed by the OT Team Leader who will engage in regular leader rounding, PDR process as well as regular clinical and program planning support.

Work within a diverse and experienced OT team, with opportunities for both informal peer support and formal weekly supervision focused on complex cases and professional development.
Access a comprehensive in-service and training program that supports ongoing learning, skill development, and opportunities to share expertise with colleagues.

Participate in a well-established culture of clinical supervision, supported by the HNE Head of Discipline for Occupational Therapy and regular network meetings throughout the year.
