About the role
This role provides an excellent opportunity for a graduate or early-career GIS professional to contribute to the management, analysis and improvement of Council’s spatial and asset information.
The position supports the maintenance of GIS datasets, assists with spatial analysis, and contributes to mapping and reporting outputs that inform infrastructure planning, asset management and operational activities across Council.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, the role will build capability in ensuring spatial and asset data is accurate, current and effectively used to support decision‑making.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
Maintain and update Council’s GIS and asset databases, ensuring spatial and attribute data accuracy and integrity
Capture, validate and manage spatial and asset data from a range of sources, including field collection and As Constructed information
Assist with spatial analysis to support asset management, infrastructure planning and operational requirements
Provide GIS mapping and analysis to support planning, reporting and service delivery
Prepare maps, plans and spatial visualisations to communicate information clearly
Support data quality initiatives, including data cleansing, validation and workflow improvements
Undertake field data collection and verification using GPS or handheld devices
Assist with maintaining the accuracy of Council’s asset register
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of GIS and asset data processes and documentation
This role is based onsite at Council Offices. There is no Working-From-Home available for this role.
About you
You are a motivated graduate or early‑career GIS practitioner looking to build your experience in a practical, operational environment. You have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy, and enjoy working with spatial data to support real‑world outcomes.
You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and can manage your workload across competing priorities. You communicate clearly with internal stakeholders and take a practical, solutions‑focused approach to your work. You apply sound judgement when working with spatial data and are committed to ensuring information is reliable and fit for purpose.
Selection Criteria:
Essential:
Relevant qualification in GIS, Spatial Sciences or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Current driver’s licence
Proven ability to organise your work, manage priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to interpret plans or field information and translate this into accurate GIS data
Practical experience using GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS or similar) for mapping and analysis
Desirable:
Practical experience working with GIS systems to capture, maintain and update spatial data in an operational or asset-focused environment
Experience managing data accuracy, including validation, cleansing and quality control
Experience undertaking or supporting field data collection activities
Experience working with internal stakeholders (e.g. planning, engineering) to understand and deliver data requirements
