## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Floor Finisher to join our team and deliver high-quality flooring installations and finishes across a range of residential and commercial projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for measuring, cutting, installing, and repairing a variety of soft and resilient floor coverings to a professional standard. This role suits a trade-experienced individual who takes pride in their workmanship, manages their time effectively on site, and can work both independently and as part of a broader construction or renovation team. ## Key Responsibilities
- Measure floor areas accurately, interpret site plans, and calculate the quantities of materials required to minimise waste and control project costs
- Prepare subfloor surfaces prior to installation, including removing existing coverings, levelling uneven surfaces, and taking up baseboard trims to ensure a clean and stable base
- Measure, cut, and secure underlay materials to the correct specification, ensuring adequate cushioning, moisture resistance, and structural integrity beneath the finished floor
- Lay a wide range of floor coverings including carpet, linoleum, vinyl, cork tiles, parquetry blocks, and other resilient flooring materials, carefully matching patterns and achieving seamless joins
- Cut and shape flooring materials to fit around fixtures, fittings, hearths, and irregular surfaces, maintaining clean edges and a professional finish throughout
- Secure floor coverings firmly in place and install edge trims and transition strips in doorways and between different flooring surfaces
- Sand, stain, and apply protective finishing coatings to timber floors, selecting appropriate products to achieve the desired aesthetic and durability
- Identify and repair damaged, worn, or lifting floor coverings in a timely manner, restoring surfaces to a safe and presentable condition
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment on site at all times, adhering to workplace health and safety legislation and company procedures
- Liaise with clients, site supervisors, and other trades to coordinate schedules, manage expectations, and ensure work is completed to specification and on time
- Occasionally install coverings to walls, ceilings, countertops, and bench surfaces as required by project scope
- Manage and maintain tools, equipment, and materials responsibly, reporting faults or stock shortages to the relevant supervisor
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Completion of a relevant trade qualification or apprenticeship in floor covering, flooring installation, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated experience working as a Floor Finisher or Flooring Installer in residential, commercial, or industrial environments
- Proficiency in installing a broad range of floor covering types, including carpet, vinyl, timber, linoleum, and tile-based products
- Strong practical skills in surface preparation, including levelling, grinding, and the application of adhesives and screeds
- Ability to accurately read and interpret site plans, technical drawings, and material specifications
- Sound numeracy skills for measuring, estimating material quantities, and managing waste
- Knowledge of and commitment to workplace health and safety standards, including manual handling best practices and the safe use of tools and equipment
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively within a broader construction team
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard of personal workmanship
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport to travel between project sites as required
## Preferred Qualifications
- White Card (Construction Induction Training) or equivalent site safety certification
- Experience with specialised flooring systems such as epoxy coatings, raised access floors, or acoustic underlay systems
- Familiarity with sustainable or eco-friendly flooring products and installation methods
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one
- Previous experience working on large-scale commercial or government projects
- Knowledge of Australian flooring standards and relevant building codes
