We require a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team and contribute to the continued success and expansion of our company. In this role, the Mechanical Engineering Technician will require a strong knowledge of mechanical plants.
About the Role:
The Mechanical Engineering Technician supports mechanical engineering operations by assisting with the design, development, installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of mechanical equipment, systems, and industrial machinery. The role works closely with engineers, supervisors, tradespeople, and project teams to ensure equipment performance, compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency across industrial, manufacturing, mining, construction, fabrication, or maintenance environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist Mechanical Engineers in designing installations, conducting maintenance, and executing repairs for mechanical plant and equipment.
- Interpret blueprints and plans to determine the specifications of assembly or repair tasks, including the positioning and dimensions of parts.
- Select and utilize appropriate tools and equipment for servicing plant equipment.
- Perform maintenance, inspections, tube cleaning, and repairs on Acid Coolers as required.
- Estimate material costs, quantities, and machine tool requirements.
- Conduct mechanical and laboratory testing both in workshop and on-site environments.
- Collect and analyze data, conduct complex computations, and generate diagrams using CAD software.
- Ensure designs and completed work adhere to specifications, regulations, and contractual provisions.
- Identify and resolve problems promptly, including completing Internal Strong Acid Vessel Inspections and conducting repairs using appropriate safety measures.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Australian Standards, WHS legislation, site procedures, and quality assurance requirements.
- Liaise with engineers, suppliers, contractors, and production personnel regarding mechanical issues, equipment upgrades, and project activities.
- Assist with procurement of mechanical components, materials, and spare parts.
- Support shutdowns, commissioning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, equipment, and maintenance practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience with fault finding, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards, WHS requirements, and quality procedures.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems (CMMS preferred).
Qualifications
- AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Relevant industry experience in mechanical maintenance, fabrication, manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, marine, or heavy industry environments preferred.
