About the role
Nurses in the Surgical Admissions Unit play a key role in preparing patients for same day procedures across a range of specialties including General Surgery, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Endoscopy. The Unit operates Monday - Friday and is supported by a friendly and collaborative multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities include patient assessment on arrival, completing pre-operative checks (including documentation of observations and verification of consent) patient education and reassurance and coordination of care to ensure readiness for surgery. Nurses liaise closely with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, ward staff and theatre teams to facilitate efficient patient flow and maintain safety standards. The role requires strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to provide compassionate care in a fast paced environment. Nurses contribute to a positive experience while ensuring preparation processes are streamlined and aligned with best practice.
About you
To be successful in this role you will possess:
- Previous Surgical Nursing experience
- Current Nursing Registration with AHPRA
- Highly developed interpersonal and leadership experience
- A strong commitment to high quality care
- The ability to work as part of a diverse team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Healthcare workers are strongly recommended to follow COVID vaccination recommendations provided in the Australian Immunisation handbook (based on ATAGI advice). Seasonal vaccination against influenza is a mandatory requirement of this role and an offer is conditional on this being up to date prior to employment.
Those that are offered and/or start between January and April do not require an up to date vaccination for Influenza to progress providing they are aware of its requirement later in the year. Those that are offered and/or start between May and December require the up to date Influenza vaccination prior to offer.
