Complex Tax. Meaningful Client Relationships. Leadership Opportunity.
No Sydney Commute.
If you're a technically strong tax professional who enjoys solving complex problems, building trusted client relationships, and helping others grow, this could be the role you've been looking for.
CATS Accountants is a progressive and growing accounting firm based on the Central Coast. We're looking for a Senior Tax Specialist to join our leadership team and play a key role in the future of the firm.
This is not a production-line compliance role.
You'll work directly with business owners, provide strategic tax and business advice, tackle complex technical matters, and help mentor the next generation of accountants within our team.
You'll have autonomy, direct access to decision-makers, a genuinely supportive team around you, and a clear pathway to senior leadership as the firm continues to grow.
Most importantly, you'll be doing challenging and rewarding work without the Sydney commute.
Why Join CATS?
- Salary package of $120,000 - $150,000 + Super (negotiable for exceptional candidates)
- Genuine pathway into senior leadership
- Flexible working arrangements
- Direct client contact and advisory opportunities
- Diverse and technically interesting client base
- Ongoing professional development and technical training
- Collaborative team culture where your expertise is valued
- Central Coast lifestyle with meaningful career progression
- A firm focused on advisory and client outcomes, not just compliance
The Role
You will manage a portfolio of established clients and become their trusted adviser across a broad range of tax and business matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing client relationships across tax compliance and advisory services
- Providing advice on income tax, GST, CGT, trust taxation and business structures
- Assisting clients with business acquisitions, sales, restructures and succession planning
- Supporting SMSF compliance and strategic planning where appropriate
- Identifying opportunities to add value through advisory services
- Reviewing work and providing technical guidance to junior team members
- Mentoring and developing accountants within the team
- Working closely with the Directors on complex client matters
This role combines technical expertise, client advisory and leadership responsibilities, with a strong focus on helping clients achieve better business outcomes.
About You
We're looking for someone who is technically capable, commercially minded and enjoys building strong client relationships.
You will ideally have:
- CA or CPA qualification
- Extensive experience within Australian public practice accounting
- Strong technical knowledge across income tax, GST, CGT and trust taxation
- Experience advising business owners on structures, growth and succession planning
- Exposure to SMSFs and related tax matters
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills
- Leadership or mentoring experience, or a genuine desire to develop these skills
- Experience using Xero and modern cloud-based systems
Most importantly, you're someone who enjoys helping clients make better decisions and wants to be part of a firm that values people, relationships and long-term growth.
