## Motor Mechanic (General)

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Motor Mechanic (General) to join our team and provide high-quality mechanical maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services across a range of lightweight motor vehicles. ## Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical faults across engine systems, drivetrain components, and ancillary vehicle parts, using both hands-on inspection techniques and computer-assisted diagnostic equipment
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, suspension components, and braking systems to facilitate thorough inspection and repair
- Assess the condition of removed parts, identifying wear, damage, or defects that require repair or full replacement
- Repair or replace worn and defective components, ensuring all mechanical assemblies are reassembled to manufacturer specifications with reference to service manuals where required
- Carry out scheduled maintenance services, including logbook servicing, fluid changes, filter replacements, and inspections, to maintain vehicle performance and roadworthiness
- Perform post-repair testing and adjustment of mechanical parts to verify correct operation and ensure vehicles meet required performance and safety standards
- Ensure all servicing and repair work complies with relevant emissions and pollution control regulations
- Inspect vehicles and assess roadworthiness, providing detailed reports on work required to bring vehicles up to the required standard, and issuing certificates where authorised to do so
- Maintain accurate and thorough service records, job cards, and documentation in line with workshop procedures
- Liaise professionally with customers and service advisors to communicate repair findings, estimated timeframes, and costs in a clear and accessible manner
- Uphold workshop safety standards and maintain a clean, organised work environment in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements
- Assist in mentoring and supporting apprentices or junior mechanics as required
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR30616 or equivalent), or a recognised trade qualification in automotive mechanics
- Proven experience working as a qualified Motor Mechanic in a professional workshop environment
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair a broad range of mechanical faults across petrol-powered light vehicles
- Sound working knowledge of engine systems, transmissions, suspension, steering, and braking components
- Proficiency in using computerised diagnostic tools and scanning equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical service manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and safety compliance
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently within a busy workshop environment
- Valid Australian driver's licence (manual preferred)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
## Preferred Qualifications
- Current Automotive Refrigerant Handling Licence (ARCtick)
- Experience with a broad range of vehicle makes and models, including European, Japanese, and Australian vehicles
- Familiarity with workshop management software and digital job card systems
- Roadworthiness inspection authorisation or eligibility to obtain authorisation
- First Aid certification
- Experience supervising or mentoring apprentice mechanics
