ABOUT THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity within our Match Officials function for an Umpire Selector / Lead Match Referee – Appointments / DRO. This role plays a critical part in supporting the fair, transparent and performance-led selection and appointment of umpires and match referees across Cricket Australia competitions, helping ensure Australian Cricket continues to identify, develop and produce world-class match officials.
Reporting to the Match Officials Manager, you’ll be responsible for:
Working with the Umpire Selection Panel to apply sound processes and practices that support fair, objective and meritorious selection of umpires to Cricket Australia panels and competitions;
Leading the appointment of umpires and match referees to Cricket Australia competition matches, including international matches, marquee fixtures and finals, with clear rationale and stakeholder alignment;
Reviewing performance information, match assessments and decision logs to inform selection and appointment decisions, provide meaningful in-season and post-season feedback, and support high standards across umpiring and match referee programs.
Acting as a key contact for match referee matters, contributing to the Decision Review process and working with coaches, analysts and stakeholders to address contentious umpiring decisions professionally and constructively.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
A comprehensive and demonstrable knowledge of the Australian Cricket Umpiring Pathway
Recent or contemporary involvement with Australian Cricket or another major sport as an umpire, match referee, coach or former First-Class player
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to quickly build trust and respect with umpires, players, team officials and key stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict, exercise sound judgement and promote acceptance of decisions across diverse stakeholder groups
A professional, organised and objective approach, with unquestionable integrity, strong decision-making capability and confidence operating with self-direction.
