About the Role
Electorate Officers play an important role in providing services to the Victorian community. Reporting to the Member of Parliament that nominates you, your work will require a high degree of trust and integrity. Confidentiality is also a key requirement when interacting with constituents and visitors to the office or in the community.
Based in the Member of Parliament's electorate office, you will interact daily with constituents, community organisations and other stakeholders. Key responsibilities may include:
Media monitoring, messaging, and liaison:

Manage and maintain the Member's Social media channels and digital communication.

Develop and deliver effective, timely and accurate messaging across traditional and digital communications channels, including media releases, website content, newsletters and social media platforms.

Liaise with print, broadcast and online media outlets, update the Member's website, and monitor media coverage to track and report on relevant local and topical issues.

Proactively identify and develop content opportunities from community events, stakeholder engagement, electorate activity and media coverage, maintaining a continuous pipeline of high-quality content and ensuring all communications are accurate, engaging and aligned with the Member's voice and priorities.
Research, reporting, and communications support:

Prepare talking points and speaking notes. Undertake or commission research in a timely and accurate manner.

Liaise with Ministerial offices (State and Federal), government departments, local government, community organisations and stakeholder groups.
Office systems, templates and communications support:

Attend functions, briefings, and meetings;

Maintain accurate documentation and records in line with archival systems.

Design, develop and maintain office and communications templates and materials to support consistent day-to-day operations, including correspondence, briefing notes, meeting documents, and promotional materials.

Ensure adherence to office security protocols at the Electorate Office and Parliament House, and perform other duties as directed.
Under Section 30 of the Parliamentary Administration Act 2005 Electorate Officers must not perform any party specific activities. Party specific activity means any activity for the dominant purpose of directing how a person should vote at an election, by promoting or opposing the election of any candidate at the election; or a registered political party; or an elected member.
Salary
Electorate Officer salaries are set out in the Electorate Officers (Victoria) Single Enterprise Agreement 2025.
Grade 1: Casual hourly rate of $47.91 per hour plus 12% employer superannuation.

Excellent communication and stakeholder enga gement skills
Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate, clear and engaging content across reports, correspondence, media and digital platforms. Ability to engage professionally with a wide range of stakeholders while maintaining confidentiality and sound judgement.
High-level digital communications and content production skills
Experience managing social media channels and producing digital content. Demonstrated ability to use tools such as Mailchimp for newsletters, Canva for design, and social media scheduling platforms. Experience creating photography, short-form video and reels.
Strong attention to detail and quality control
Meticulous approach to accuracy, tone, formatting and presentation across all outputs.
Proactivity and initiative
Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, generate content ideas, improve systems and take ownership of tasks.
Integrity, professionalism and teamwork
Commitment to the Electorate Officer Code of Conduct, confidentiality, and respectful collaboration within a small, high-performing office environment.
