About the Role
An exciting opportunity is available to join the South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) team as a Counsellor/Advocate. We have a full time, fixed-term, opportunity until June 2027. Basedin Dandenong, this role is open to Social Workers and Psychologists who are passionate about supporting people impacted by sexual assault and family violence.
As a Grade 2 Counsellor/Advocate you will provide high quality trauma focused counselling and therapeutic interventions, driven by frameworks of intersectionality, gender equality, anti-oppression, and a human rights-based approach. This position requires a truly collaborative approach, working with clients, their families and key agencies, within the scope of current legislation and professional guidelines. Key purpose of this role includes:
To provide counselling and therapeutic interventions to people who have experienced sexual assault and/or family violence
To undertake evidence-based and trauma focussed assessments, case formulation, goal setting, counselling, and crisis response
To work collaboratively with the client and key agencies to advocate for, assess and respond to identified risk
To contribute to the After-Hours rosters

The South Eastern Centre Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence (SECASA) is a specialist service supporting people who have experienced sexual assault and family violence across Melbourne’s south-east. Our work is grounded in safety, respect, empowerment and recovery. We provide specialist therapeutic support to adults, children, young people and families, recognising that every person’s experience, needs and pathway to recovery are different.
As part of SECASA, you’ll work alongside a passionate and experienced multidisciplinary team delivering counselling, advocacy, assessment and therapeutic interventions. Our work extends beyond individual support – we also partner with services and communities through education, professional training, advocacy and prevention initiatives to help create lasting change.

About You
You are a skilled Social Worker or Psychologist with demonstrated clinical experience supporting adults who have experienced complex trauma related to sexual assault and/or family violence. You bring well-developed crisis intervention skills, enabling you to provide compassionate, effective support to people in distress.
With experience working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies, you are committed to enhancing the wellbeing and safety of your clients. You possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, building trust and rapport with both colleagues and partner organisations to achieve positive outcomes.
