## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Systems Administrator to join our team and take ownership of the organisation's IT infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of our server environments, networks, and supporting systems. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with a strong technical background and a commitment to delivering reliable, secure, and high-performing IT services. ## Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain server hardware, operating systems, software, and associated infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and availability
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server-related hardware and software malfunctions across workstations, servers, and communication infrastructure, providing timely service support to minimise disruption
- Monitor network performance and system health on an ongoing basis, identifying potential issues and making proactive adjustments to maintain service quality and reliability
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including operational procedures, system logs, configuration records, and IT policies and instructions
- Assess current and future infrastructure needs by regularly surveying existing systems and recommending enhancements to server capacity, network design, and technology implementation
- Ensure computer site design and layout allows all hardware and software components to integrate and function cohesively within the broader IT environment
- Manage system security measures including user access controls, patch management, antivirus solutions, and firewall configurations to protect organisational data and assets
- Plan, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery procedures to safeguard data integrity and ensure business continuity
- Administer and support databases, virtualisation platforms, and cloud-based services as required by the organisation
- Collaborate with IT team members, vendors, and internal stakeholders to deliver infrastructure projects and resolve escalated technical issues
- Provide guidance and technical support to end users and junior IT staff, promoting best practices and ensuring effective use of systems and tools
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Proven experience in a Systems Administrator or similar IT infrastructure role
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems, including installation, configuration, and maintenance
- Demonstrated experience with network administration, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewall management
- Proficiency in virtualisation technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions and the ability to develop and test recovery procedures
- Sound understanding of IT security principles, including access management, patch management, and vulnerability remediation
- Ability to prepare clear technical documentation and maintain accurate system records
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and work both autonomously and as part of a collaborative team
## Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or equivalent cloud certification
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python for task automation
- ITIL Foundation certification or experience working within an ITIL-aligned service management framework
- Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 administration
- Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Nagios, PRTG, or SolarWinds
- Prior experience working in an enterprise or multi-site environment
