Lowanna College is seeking a passionate and student-focused Careers and Attendance Teacher to join our Student Pathways team. Working alongside the College's Careers Practitioners, the successful applicant will play a key role in supporting students to explore and achieve their post-school aspirations while also contributing to the College's attendance improvement and engagement strategies.
The role combines careers education, pathway planning and student engagement with a strong focus on attendance monitoring, intervention and support. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with students, families, teaching staff, wellbeing teams and external agencies to improve student engagement, attendance and successful transition outcomes.
The Careers and Attendance Teacher will support students in identifying career pathways, further education and employment opportunities, while also proactively identifying and responding to attendance concerns through data analysis, case management and targeted intervention. The role requires the ability to build strong relationships with students and families, particularly those experiencing barriers to engagement, and to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to achieve positive outcomes.
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills, an understanding of career development and pathway planning, and a commitment to supporting student wellbeing, attendance and educational success. They will contribute to a culture of high expectations, inclusion and engagement, ensuring that all students are supported to remain connected to learning and successfully transition beyond school.

The Careers and Attendance Teacher will work collaboratively with students, families, staff and external agencies to improve student engagement, attendance and post-school pathway outcomes.
Attendance Monitoring & Data Management

Track, record and analyse daily student attendance using the College's student management systems.

Identify patterns of absence, lateness or disengagement and escalate concerns to relevant staff in a timely manner.

Prepare attendance reports and data summaries for College leadership, wellbeing teams and external agencies as required.

Maintain accurate, confidential records in accordance with Department of Education requirements and College procedures.

Monitor attendance trends and contribute to the development of targeted strategies to improve student attendance and engagement.
Student & Family Support

Contact parents/carers regarding unexplained absences, attendance concerns and required follow-up actions.

Build positive, respectful relationships with students and families to encourage ongoing engagement with the College.

Support students returning to school following prolonged absences through the development and implementation of reintegration plans.

Work collaboratively with wellbeing staff, teachers and leadership to address attendance-related barriers, including health, social, emotional and family circumstances.

Promote positive school engagement and support students to remain connected to their learning.
Intervention & Case Management

Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of attendance improvement plans for identified students.

Participate in Student Support Group meetings, case conferences, wellbeing meetings and multi-agency discussions.

Implement early intervention strategies to address attendance concerns before patterns become entrenched.

Monitor student progress and adjust supports and interventions as required.

Refer students and families to appropriate internal and external support services where necessary.
Careers Education & Pathways

Work collaboratively with the College Careers Practitioners to support the delivery of careers education and pathway programs.

Assist students to explore career options and develop informed pathway plans aligned to their interests, strengths and aspirations.

Support students with subject selection processes, career planning and transition pathways.

Provide guidance regarding further education, training, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment and tertiary opportunities.

Support the administration and coordination of work experience, structured workplace learning and other pathway-related programs.

Assist with the organisation and promotion of careers events, information sessions, tertiary visits, careers expos and employer engagement activities.

Maintain accurate records relating to student pathway planning, destinations and post-school transitions.

Liaise with employers, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), TAFEs, universities and community partners to enhance pathway opportunities for students.
Collaboration & Communication

Work closely with teachers to ensure accurate attendance recording and timely follow-up of attendance concerns.

Collaborate with wellbeing staff, College leadership and Careers Practitioners to support student engagement and successful pathway outcomes.

Liaise with external services, including youth workers, social services, community organisations, training providers and employers to support students and families.

Contribute to whole-school attendance initiatives, engagement strategies, careers programs and communication campaigns.

Compliance & Professional Practice

Ensure attendance processes align with Department of Education legislation, policies and College procedures.
