About the opportunity
An attractive opportunity exists for a psychiatrist interested in working in a Visiting Medical Officer position at Bathurst Hospital as a Consultation Liaison (CL) Psychiatrist. Bathurst Hospital provides medical (including CCU/ICU), surgical, oncology, rehabilitation, paediatrics, and maternity services to the local population. It also is undergoing a redevelopment.
Bathurst Hospital has a well-established Emergency department MH CNC team. The post is supported by a psychiatry trainee.
The position sits within the Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services in Bathurst, a part of the Western NSW Local Health District. Our team delivers specialist treatment and care to the Bathurst region and surrounding communities. Across a largely rural District we are at the forefront of innovative practices to deliver services across a catchment of 400,000 square kms with the regional centres of Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst as hubs.
The successful candidate will join two other CL psychiatrists working in the Western NSW LHD.

Where you'll be working
The position will work in Bathurst and based in Bathurst Hospital. Consultant psychiatrists provide direct clinical services at one or more of the following: Bloomfield/Orange Hospital; Bathurst or Dubbo Base Hospitals; and associated community services in Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo, Parkes, Cowra, Forbes, Mudgee, Bourke or Lightning Ridge.
The position will work in Bathurst and based in Bathurst Hospital. Consultant psychiatrists provide direct clinical services at one or more of the following: Bloomfield/Orange Hospital; Bathurst or Dubbo Base Hospitals; and associated community services in Orange, Bathurst, Dubbo, Parkes, Cowra, Forbes, Mudgee, Bourke or Lightning Ridge
Bathurst is located approximately 200 kilometres west-northwest of Sydney with a population of 42,000. It is well known for the Bathurst 1000 touring car race held annually at Mount Panorama. The city offers many café’s, hotels, motels and boutique shopping experiences along with tourist attractions including the National Motor Racing Museum, Australian Fossil & Mineral Museum and Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.

1. Evidence of being a MEDICAL EXPERT, including medical degree (registerable/registered) with the Medical Board of Australia, Fellowship of the RANZCP or equivalent; experience and competence in relevant areas of psychiatry including forensics for the relevant age group(s) and treatment settings (inpatient/outpatient/community).
2. Evidence of being a good COMMUNICATOR, including having appropriate skills in verbal and written communication and the use of computer and telemedicine technology. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
3. Evidence of being a COLLABORATOR in working with patients, families, multidisciplinary teams, medical colleagues, other health professionals, and relevant government and non-government agencies.
4. Evidence of being a MANAGER, including leading multidisciplinary teams and supervising the clinical work of a team, and in performing required management and administrative tasks; able to work within clinical governance structures and participate in efforts for clinical quality improvement.
5. Evidence of being an ADVOCATE for patients, families and carers, and of applying the principles of illness prevention and health promotion in your work.
6. Evidence of being a SCHOLAR, including commitment to continuing medical education and professional development, being a mentor to junior colleagues, and educating other health professionals, students, patients and their families.
7. Evidence of being a PROFESSIONAL, including adhering to ethical conduct and practice, complying with relevant policies and guidelines, and behaving at all times with integrity, honesty, compassion and respect for others.
8. Hold a driver licence valid in NSW and be prepared to travel as a requirement of the position.
